Song of the Day: Disturbia

Today’s song is Disturbia by Rihanna.

Dance-pop.
A solid hook, beautiful vocals and (only a few) dating elements.
For that, and the aesthetic alone, it deserves the spotlight.

The track focuses on confusion and anxiety, leading into the style and the lyrical setup.

Faded pictures on the wall. It’s like they talkin’ to me.

The uptempo melody really mixes well with all the vocal effects (which unfortunately lock the era).

This is one of those songs where the development leaves it in the past.
It’s like Cher’s Believe or Eiffel 65’s Blue (Da Ba Dee).

Contemporary styling just makes you realize how shallow/simplistic the tune is (even if it’s catchy).
Don’t get me wrong, the hook is great.
It just sounds a bit juvenile a decade and a half later.

A young woman with black hair which is covering one of her eyes, wearing a white dress is posing in front of a blue-greyish background. In the middle of the picture the word 'Rihanna' is written in red capital letters. Under it 'Good Girl Gone Bad' is written in white letters, while 'Reloaded' in red capital letters.
