Song of the Day: Because Of You

Today’s song is Because Of You by Reba McEntire.

Country-pop.
Very little in common with the 2004 original by Kelly Clarkson.

This is a duet, featuring both McEntire and Clarkson in parallel.
What I enjoy about this one is that it’s more in line with a power-ballad.
Far more instrumentation (and a “grander” feel) than the original.

Because of you I don’t know how to let anyone else in.

When the song ramps up, those instrumental choices really fall into place.

Some may say that this one is a little ‘all over the place’.
I can’t deny that it’s a bit much when it’s really going, but I think it really captures the lyrics well.

Yeah. It’s a bit like a Meatloaf song without a ‘necessary reason’, but I still think it works.
It’s a solid counter-point to the original (while still maintaining the message).

As one who hates most country, I was pleasantly surprised.
Not saying that it’s better than the original, just a interesting experiment.
