Song of the Day: Hazy Shade of Winter

Today’s song is Hazy Shade of Winter by The Bangles.

Rock.
This is a cover of the original from Simon and Garfunkel.
The original is more folk-rock, whereas this is just straight rock (with more 80’s elements).

The guitar has an amazing hook, and the drums are so on point that they add a much needed punch to the tone.

Hang on to your hopes, my friend.
That’s an easy thing to say, but if your hopes should pass away,
Simply pretend that you can build them again.

I really love the start to this. At EXACTLY 30-second the song picks up, with the pace and tone settling beautifully.

If you’re looking for a more contemporary version, Gerard Way (from MCR) made a cover in 2019.
I prefer the Bangles rendition (as that has more of a ‘classic’ feel), but you make enjoy this one.
No clue.

  1. I love the Bangles version (and have seen the Bangles live), but to be perfectly honest, sometimes I watch the video just for the glimpses of young Robert Downey Jr.
