Song of the Day: Black Horse & the Cherry Tree

Today’s song is Black Horse & the Cherry Tree by KT Tunstall.

Folk Rock.
Not every day you have a Scottish singer lay out a better country/blues track than most.
Love the sound on this one. To be fair, it reuses the beat from Bo Diddly (even if it’s fairly unrecognizable)
.
A ton of fun. The lyrics have a punch to them.

And my heart had a problem in the early hours so I stopped it dead for a beat or two.

The harmonizing is great, and that guitar strumming is excellent. Basically, the backing percussion adds so much flavor to the sound.

Such a fun bridge. If you look into the lyrics you find that there is a nice story buried there too.
For whatever reason, this song appears to have been lost among all of the more popular tracks from the era.
Happy to keep it moderately remembered. Who knows? Maybe it’ll get a second wind with a cover or something.

A sepia photograph of Tunstall wearing a black vest and holding her left hand against her head. Stylised in the top left corner are the words "KT Tunstall" and "Eye to the Telescope".
